I am trying to find any information about my great great grandmother. She was born Lydia Hill in 1852ish either in Ballymeen or Liverpool (she changes her birthplace on the 1871 and 1881 census) She married Benjamin Hughes and had one child in Ireland (Ida Catherine) other children all over the UK as Benjamin was in the army. She disappears about 1891 (family legend is she ran off with a german baker!). Any ideas?

in 1881 thety were living in Harborne, Staffordshire (now part of Birmingham), in 1871 Dunstall Staffordshire. I can't find a marriage cert for them as they were married in Ireland but they are shown as married on Ida Caherine Hughes birth certificate in 1869.

they had a daughter Elizaebeth born about 1897 Abergavenny.
They were living in Abergavenny Monmouthshire on the wales 1901 census.
if you get the marriage cert you should find out his marital status when he married, so I would be looking for a death record for Lydia between 1891 & 1896.
possibilities 1894 Prescot Lancashire 4th q 8b p 429,
1895 Dudley 4th qtr 6c p 48
alternatively if they divorced 1922 West bromwich 2nd qtr 6b p 771

benjamin's birth record is 2nd qtr Shrewsbury 1845 vol 18 p 157
death 1909 Abergavenny.

Yes thats them Benjamin was living with his daughters (Mary Fitter and Ida Catherine Phillips in 1891) at a seperate address, so I think the split had happenned. We know she was interred in the first world war with her german boyfriend (maybe husband) so she was still alive and kicking in 1914. Benjamin states his status as widower on the marriage certificate in 1896 (known to be untrue). That's why we're stuck. We know she was dead in 1923 from the will of her sister. It's all good fun eh :)
