I have a marriage certificate dated 1908
george thomas davies
age 45 widower
profession engine driver ( i presume colliery )
living Cymmer, Porth Pontypridd
Father Henry Davies deceased profession stonemason
married to Elizabeth smith.
Where do I go from here I cannot find a census with a george and father henry. They might not even have come from Pontypridd

try looking for Goerge in the 1901 census b.1863, but with a different spouse.
this site will help deicpher Welsh towns & parishes
http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/wal/

look in the Mountain Ash area

if it does happen to be in that area I have CD of St Margaret's Mountain Ash 1859-1933 and St John's Miskin 1910-1935
and Glamorgan marriages 1569-1837 so could do some look ups

I would go right back to 1871 census and look for Henry, a stonemason with a son George, then try to follow them forward.
Of course Henry could have changed his job, ...but you might find a similar type of occupation.

If only we could look at 1911 census, it might help us all with our DAVIES families.

Just having a quick glance before going to work
there is a george and mary on the 1891 living in maesteg and he born neath

Also seen an edmund and sedonia living in Tongwyalais, Glamorgan, Wales in 1891

Having another thought he remarried 1908 he had a daughter 1909 who he names Mary Anne would it be too weired to name a child after your dead wife
he dies later that year

Have you tried following the addresses and marriage witnesses? - they can often help to connect.

What are ALL the details from the marriage cert - ages, occupations, fathers, witnesses etc?
