Stuck for 2 years now, can anyone help?

Is there anyone who can help me? I'm getting desperate now!

I have traced my family back to one William Jackson. I have his will (apparently they didn't do death certificates in 1838 in Scotland) and a copy of his Banns of Marriage. From this I have gathered that he was born in or around 1806 but where and to whom I don't know. I really need to get a copy of his marriage certificate as that would tell me his parents names, or something of the sort. What i do know is as follows:

HI Anne,

Wonder if you could help me as have been stuck on one person for some time now (at least 2 years!)

William Jackson
B. circa. 1806
M. Susan Hunter in Barony Church, Gorbals, Glasgow on 7 November 1829
D. 16/09/1838.

He was made a member of the Guild of Bakers of Glasgow on 6 feb 1837.

In his will there is mention of a Robert Jackson, debtor to the estate, but I have no other information on him.

He is buried in the Glasgow necropolis (Gamma No 33) but the head stone is very badly worn and is thus illegible. He was made out as the owner - I checked the records.

If anyone can help I will be eternally grateful.

Roly

Treat yourself, buy the cert, 2 years is long enough to puzzle over him.

There are only 4 births during the year 1806 for William Jackson and they are all registgered in the Lanark District it would be well worth spending £6 to get 30 credits as its 5 credits to view an entry but it does cost you 1 credit to see the indexes
There is only 1 match for a marraige but that could be the banns you already have
wills show up
1 Jackson William 16/03/1839 baker, residing in Laurieston of Glasgow, spouse of Susan Hunter Trust Disposition and Settlement Glasgow Sheriff Court Wills SC36/51/15 VIEW (£5.00)
(7 pages)
2 Jackson William 16/03/1839 baker in Laurieston of Glasgow Inventory Glasgow Sheriff Court Inventories SC36/48/27 VIEW (£5.00)
(3 pages)

there is also a RObert Jackson born in 1827 father William Jackson registered in the Lanark area

Good Luck]

Jan Thanks
Roland
although his christening date is before the marraige of William it does take place in the same place Gorbals Glasgow and parents do not look like they are married so it may be worth keeping in mind if another Robert doesn's surface from anywhere.

Guys,

Sorry for the slow reply, I'm currently out of the country atm and find it hard to get to the computer very often. The Robert that you seem to have found Jackie is certainly very interesting - there can't have been too many William Jacksons knocking around in Gorbals at that time! I'll definatley look into him a bit more. There is also the possibility that he is a brother and there were I think a few William Jacksons born to parents who also had a Robert Jackson as a son. However, he could be more distantly related, ie a nephew or cousin etc. As there is no way to know just yet, any advice on how I should continue.

As you can see there were quite a few William Jacksons born around the time I'm looking. Although likely to have been born in or around the area of Glasgow, this isn't certain as it was around the latter period of thee highland clearences. There is also the chance that he is either a bastard or the family changed their name to a more English sounding one, from MacIain or something. Obviously I'd rather be dealing in certainties, although I know that this is not always possible. Any ideas where I should go from here - it has to be possible to trace his parents as it was only 200 years ago!?
