He was living with his daughter & son in law at the time of his death, Beamish st Stanley Co Durham, whether he in fact died at that address or in hospital (which may have been in Northumberland) I don't know & the offspring above who were childless are long gone.

The RO would be Durham N now, not Durham NW.
I've just realized no one's answered your initial query about the death certificate. What you need to see is the index for the 1950s - this isn't on FreeBMD as their d.images only go up to 1935, and their transcriptions are not complete up to then. They are available on Ancestry, and at LDS FHCs, some libraries, and all ROs, as well as most county Rec Offices. You'ld have to go thru these images, quarter by quarter, until you found the entry you were after. You can "find" an LDS FHC in the centre col of:

and the rest you can google. Your first choice should be to ask what's at your local library, as this is probably the most convenient.

I still don't understand why I can't find a death reg for James Parker Whom I'm fairly certain died in the early 50s, aged 80+

Shirley mentions FreeBMD, which is an incomplete transcription of the GRO index, and contains the info you need to buy a cert from them for 7 GBP and avoid any search fees. You can also buy a cert from the local RO (local to where the registered event occurred). Some local ROs, particularly in DUR, have their own indices online, at least partially; see:
http://www.northeastbmd.org.uk/
These local indices usually sort out who married whom on a page that has two or more certs in the GRO registers.
There's a general 100 year closure on censuses (although there's a slight relaxation for 1911). Closure exceptions are made, but I don't for what, and in any case, they're not at all cheap.
The census citation: the first element RG11 is the PRO # for the 1881 census - the next is a piece # which identifies a local area for that census - the last is the page # in the actual enumeration book, and the 3rd element is a folio # which was stamped sequentially on every odd page in a piece (and also applies to the following even page#). Since a piece contains several enumeration districts, and thus several page 7's, say, the folio # provides one way of distinguishing which page 7 is meant.

You need to bookmark FreeBMD which is free site for Births marriages and deaths,. Plus Family search site which has parish records and a free access to the 1881 census
Genes is very expensive to search on and doesnt actually hold records ,it directs you to other sites that have the records and you can find pre 1920 BMDS anyway Free on Free BMD.
From Freebmd this could be the marriage. the records at that time had two couples per ref so you would have to purchase the marriage cert to be sure which bride married which groom.
It is sometimes possible to eliminate by finding the male on the next census and see what his wife's christian name is there fore knowing which bride it was ,Doesn't work tho if both have the same Christian name.

I think you've got it spot on, I knew James when I was a small child, he used to tell me stories about TANTOBIE, so it's too much of a coincidence for it not to be him. Thanks very much for your help, now please tell me how you did it, the source citation at the bottom of your reply refers to what?
I'm a novice at geneology, I subscribe to this site & the 1911 census site, is there anything else I could do to make searching easier. Is it possible to get a sight of the 1951 census?. The majority of my family were from Derbyshire.

Good Question Victoria, I'm guessing about 80. I can't find his birth or marriage. His Daughter was Edith Rosina Parker, who married my uncle Leslie Bennett in 1944 I've just received the marriage cert. Edith birth reg Lanchester, 10a,688 Jan-march 1915 shows mothers maiden name as STOKES.
I'm mystified.

I am trying to find record of the death of James Parker who died sometime in the early 1950's, he lived at Stanley, County Durham. I would have thought that the register office would be Durham N W but I can't find any record.
