Buy the birth cert and you will have his parents. Then you can look up their marriage on freebmd.org and buy the marriage cert and work backwards that way through certs and census.

hello everybody who replied to my thread last night,i have an apology to make. sorry all ive got a bit mixed up with some of my info. my greatgrandfather george methias"s father was called edward jones not henry! but his wife was a mary jones. i have no DOBs for edward or mary and it was these dates i was after help with.George methias was born in poplar middlesex.estimated birthdate (1886 - 1889) on his gravestone it either says he died aged 75 or 78.i have got these facts from relatives of mine and from some of your kind selves replying to my threads. sorry to have wasted anyones time and i hope you all still help me

Poplar is Middlesex
It's the Docklands area, Isle of Dogs ie East End

need to look him up in census to find out where he was born Middlesex or Kent

it is a district but as far as i'm aware it's not in kent, it's middlesex or somewhere around there

Do you have a subscription to Genes reunited or Ancestry.co.uk so that you can look at census records??

You can search 1881 census and some parish records for free on www.familysearch.org

certifcates should have parents names on and occupation of father also ages.

First find the family in 1901 this will tell you when and where henry ad MAry were born. The work back to 1881 etc, you should be able to find their marrige so you can get Mary's maiden name.

Make sure you document everything making note of where you found data.

Well, I guess you have been going backwards using certificates?

Do you have the birth cert of George Methias? I cant see a child with that name nor a marriage with that name?Nor have I heard of a place called Poplar in Kent. Have you been backing up your research with certs and census?

The marriage in Dover in 1908 - how do you know the wifes first names? I assume she wasnt a Jones aswell? This is the only Dover marriage I can see

hello im james jones son of james savage jones 1935 -2005 born in cockermouth cumbria whose father was george henry jones 1910-1989 gravesend whose parents were george methias jones born in poplar kent 1886-1964 buried in gravesend kent and ellen louisa jones(born in ashford 1888) who were married in dover 1908.george methias"s parents were a henry and mary jones .can anyone tell me how to find more on henry and mary to help me continue my family tree? thanks james
