I'm sure many of you are aware of the problems of finding Williamses and others in Wales but I hope someone can help here.

I am trying to find the family of my great grandfather Thomas Williams who was born in Trelech, Carmarthenshire. Since this is a needle in a haystack operation I'm focussing on his children. So, if anyone has any knowledge of the following I'd be very grateful for the information.

By his first wife Sarah he had

Esther Williams b~1872 in Aberdare. I think she married John Tucker in 1893 in Carmarthen. In 1901 she was in Bridgend. At one point she had the occupation of Insurance clerk.
John Williams b~1875 in Aberdare. In 1891 he was a chemical apprentice.
Josiah Williams b1876 in Aberdare. Married Margaret Griffiths in 1899 in Carmarthen. Had a son Percy in 1900 in Machynlleth. 1901 census has him in Machynlleth working for the Prudential Inusurance.
William William b~1879 Aberdare. I don't know anything about him.
Thomas Williams b~1882 in Aberdare. In 1901 he was living at home in Carmarthen and listed as ministerial student.
Benjamin Williams b~1884 in Carmarthen. In 1901 he was a draper's assistant in Carmarthen.

By his second wife Letitia Davies he had

Henry Whitfield Williams b1896 Carmarthen. My grandfather.
Ewart Penry Williams b1898 Carmarthen. I believe he married Elizabeth Davies in 1919 in Carmarthen.

I would be very grateful for any information about this family either before or after the dates I have given.

I've got the cert for his marriage to Letitia. This was in 1895 in Carmarthen and guess what his father's called! Correct, Thomas Williams and he was a coal miner. I have a date of ~1852 for the birth of Thomas the younger.

I have searched for your thomas long and hard with family but no joy

I would suggest that you write to

civil regestration manager
carmarthenshire registration service
register office
parc myrddin
richmond terrace
carmarthen
carmarthenshire
sa31 1hQ
enclose a cheque for £7,a s.a.e and a letter saying

please would you search your registers for the birth of
thomas williams born about 1852
i believe due to research
in trelech,parish of Treleach-ar-Bettws
sub registration district,,conwil,,
father ,,thomas williams ,coal miner.

put your phone number on it as they sometimes phone to discuss possibles with you.

they will normally search a few years either side of the date at no charge and return your cheque if nothing else.
so nothing lost if they dont find his birth cert.

you could also get one of his first family childrens cert to try for his first marriage,as maybe there would be a witness on there that was his family,
unless there is one on his marriage to letitia that may help to find him on census?
