Hi Vivienne,
Do you know what school they would have been at?
I have looked through a couple of the school records at Berkshire Records Office and there are a lot of schools in Berkshire!
The school records I looked at were Katesgrove School in Katesgrove Lane in Reading. They have admission records which do give parents names. The school records go back as far as the 1870's as far as I can remember.
Having said that, the other school I looked for, E.P.Collier, had no records. I've been told that some schools keep their own records and don't give them to the records office. Other schools only had a plan of the school and no other details.

Hi Carolyn. Thank you for looking,I am sorry but all I know is that they lived in reading I have a few addresses for them at different ages
Their mother was living at 71 spring gardens, reading in august 1917 when she died. Aubrey noble was born at 34 highgrove street ,in may of 1917 Henry james noble was born at farley hill ,swallowfield in 1913,but mums address was 41 russell street. And henry james noble was living at 99 elgar rd in 1934 aged 20 when he married for the first time. Also the address that I have for the" Thorns" that I believe may have brought them up,or Aubrey at least,is 572 oxford street in 1915. I think mrs edith thorn was born in Tilehurst?
I hope you can make sense of this. And thank you again for giving it a go. viv

Hi Viv,
I am hoping to go to the records office friday next week.
I am Reading born and still live here so know it very well.
Elgar Road is in the parish of St Giles. I do know that Elgar Road kids would have gone to Katesgrove School so I will check there first. I have quite a few generations who attended the school and the records are very well kept and include d.o.b and parent/guardian names.
Highgrove Street is between 2 schools of that time. One is again Katesgrove and the other is St Giles School. Unfortunately the records for St Giles School doesn't have admission records and the school is no longer standing.
Russell Street is off the Oxford Road. I will have to check with one of the archivists to see which school is nearest as I don't know this area of Reading that well. It is the other side of Reading town centre and none of my family have come from there.
You mentioned 572, Oxford Road, and I am sure that this is the Brock Barracks. This was the home of the Royal Berkshire Regt. Now it is a base for the T.A.'s.
Anyway, I will let you know what I find out when I go.

Thank you so much for this Carolyn.
I truly appreciate the effort from you to look for me.
This is the only bit of possibly useful info I have been able to get from the records office or library by emailing them.
the 1917 directory listed a Mrs Thorn at 572 Oxford Road and another at 13 Jesse Terrace, but neither had an initial. In 1937 there was a Mrs E Thorn at 24 Thirlmere Avenue in Tilehurst, a western suburb of Reading.
And wishing you luck with whatever else you are searching for.
As I live so far away it is almost impossible for me to do this myself.
I will be here biting my nails and eargerly awaiting news, good or bad. Thank you again. viv

Hi Viv,
Managed to go to the BRO last night. This is all I could find. Hope it is of some help.
Aubrey Noble:-
Aubrey Noble admitted to Katesgrove Infant School on 17 Oct 1922. Dob 18 May 1917. Living at 99 Elgar Road. Parent/Guardian was a Mrs McPherson. He left the infant school on 31 Mar 1924 to go to Katesgrove Boys School but there aren't any admission registers for the boys school at that time.
The school and the address for him are both in the parish of St Giles so I tried to find a baptism to see if that had any more clues but no luck.
Henry James Noble.
No record of him at Katesgrove so tried scools in the Russell Street area of Reading. Unfortunately none of them had admission records only school plans, governors minutes etc.
Russell Street is in the parish of Reading Holy Trinity and I did find his baptism record. He was baptised on 15 May 1913 and born on 12 Mar 1913. His mother was Annie Noble, a single woman, of 41 Russell St. Not much help to you as you will probably have all this info already.
Looking through all the records, I noticed that there weren't a lot of Nobles in the area although I did notice a John Noble who went to Katesgrove School. I also found an Ellen Noble, baptised in 1895, living at Brunswick Street which is very near to Russell Street.
I do have a second cousin, who I have been in touch with through Genes, and her last name is Noble. I will email her to see if she has come across Aubrey or Henry James.
Anyay, I hope I have been of some help. Let me know if I can do anymore at BRO for you.
Best wishes Carolyn

Carolyn. Thank you so much for this info.
1} I did not have henry james baptism,so thats nice to have.
2} 99 Elgar road is the address that Henry James married from for the first time in 1934 before divorcing and remarrying some years later in cardiganshire.
3} Henry james had a son called John with his first wife in 1934 sept quarter.
4} The name McPherson would now allow a search of the electoral rolls at 99 Elgar road to get first names maybe.
And just by having the address it would seem that the boys were kept together at least,I just dont understand why I can find no records of Aubrey marrying or dying here. Of course there is a small possibility that he may still be alive. I will have to search for emmigration next I think,or maybe he died in ww2.
Ellen Noble, I dont know if she is related as I have been unable to find Annie Noble for sure.
And there are no births of Annie Noble in Berkshire to be her. I just" think" I may have found her in london on 1911,it being the only record to fit her age and marital status etc, also she was with a father named Henry.
Thank you once again for the trouble you have been to for me I am so grateful to you. viv
