Ok I'm really stuck! I'm desperate to find any info on John Watson b.1853 in Sunderland. Occupation was works engineer. He married Elizabeth Browning b.1862. Got the marriage cert for John & Elizabeth. Marriage on 20/03/1883 in Sunderland. John 28yrs, Elizabeth 22 yrs. John's profession recorded as Plate Layer, both living at 45 South Johnson Street, Bishop Wearmouth. John's father was James Watson but deceased at time of marriage and also a Plate Layer. Elizabeths father was Michael/Richard Browning(handwriting unclear), Master Mariner deceased at time of marriage. With regards to all this info I have been hunting and STILL can't find anything! I would really love to find John and Elizabeth on the census with their family but would also like to find John with his parents. If anyone has any tips or info to help this would be greatly appreciated as i am currently pulling my hair out! |

If the 1891 is correct it is interesting that a neighbour was William Watson 50 and family born Sunderland - A brother possibly |

Ok, thanx guys. I know he was born in Sunderland from my family. On the marriage cert he is just down as John. Suzi, why do you think the dates are wrong? Witnesses are Mark Chapman and Ann Carr. Those census returns look poisitve as i have got noted down the posssibility of children named Annie, Elizabeth and Florence (think this is all my nan could remember). A william Watson doesnt ring a bell but could def be a possibility as i havent found anything!! |

I wonder if this could be Elizabeth Browning in 1871 - Her mother is listed as a married but her husabnd is away - possibly a mariner |

I think Jennifer lists his wife as born in 1862 - they married in 1883 |

Yeah that definitely looks like Elizabeths family, especially as Richard is away as on Elizabeth's cert it is says he was Master Mariner. I'm really not sure on a middle name for John, it doesnt say on the cert but of course its a possibility. John Thomas would be my automatic guess as Thomas crops up alot in int Watson line further down, but again can't be certain. |

I think this could be John and Elizabeth in 1901 but John is listed as being born in Carlisle which could be the reason he doesn't appear in censuses pre 1891 |
