Sorry, Cynthia

Esquire, or Squire, could be used as a forename in parts of Lancashire

However, it is most commonly seen as you put, Charles Robinson, Esq

Esquire is a word which was originally used to denote a man's status. I have never seen it used as a middle name before. Different!!

I think it is more likely to be Charles Robinson Esq.,

Hi , Does anybody know if the Esquire in my grandads name is his middle name or does it stand for anything else?
Charles Esquire Robinson,
Thank you Pauline
