How do I find the Birthplace of this Mary Ellen E Jones, she died Jul 1991, Reg District, Croydon, Greater London, England, this is in order to proceed or eliminate further enquiries, the Mary that I am searching was born at Worcester Dudley, she married Edmond Jones at Pontypridd S Wales in 1913 after giving Birth to my Mother Elizabeth.

Are you trying to determine whether the woman who died in 1991 was the one who produced your mother? Frankly, it seems unlikely.....she would have been only 14/15 years old in 1913

BUT......buy her death cert......it will tell you her maiden name.

What was the maiden name of your grandmother?

Have you any evidence that your grandmother had a third forename....as per the death reg'n?

When you buy the marriage cert, you will find out her age....and father's name etc.

This seems more likely for a woman giving birth in 1913

Hi Ricochet, yes I am trying to determine that this Mary is my Grandmother and yes my Mary was only 15 at my mothers birth, I do not have a Death certificate copy only a search result from the Ancestry .Co.Uk site , my Mary's maiden name is on my Header (Allen)

As advised, obtain the death cert to establish the woman's maiden name..........

You can't begin to look for a birth until you have that info

BTW....no birth reg'n in Dudley district for 1898

My understanding of your title was that the death was of a woman whose maiden name was Allen....................

The death cert will give me her maiden name, if it is Allen how do I then find out where she was born

One step at a time...........if the maiden name wasn't Allen, it's irrelevant

when was a woman's maiden name put on a death certificate??

I don't have a more recent certificate to hand than a 1939 one and I cna't be bothered going down to the safe


...... but all the certificates I looked at up to 1939 just say the woman was "widow/spouse of ........."

NO maiden name mentioned.

Hi Ricochet, My Mary Ellen is shown in the 1911 census living with her mother Alice Allen at "5 Gadds Green, Oakham, Dudley Staffs sub disrict Rowley Regis", aged 13, at the 1901 census shows her living with her Parents at "18 Turners Hill , Rowley Regis Staffs" aged 3, the two addresses are about 2 miles apart, can not understand there not being a birth registration, could it be under West Brom or Wolverhapton, however it seems from your investigations that the Mary Ellen who died in Croydon is not related.
