Does anyone have access to any Parish records for the church at Toynton St Peter in Lincolnshire? Im looking for the baptism of Francis Edward Wright, born on June 13th 1906 (mother Ada Ellen Wright)

I would like to know what the entry on the parish register actually says please - any comments about the father or lack of one, anything the vicar miay have added.

Not sure that parish records would have any more info than the birth certificate.

I don't think parish records show births, I think it's just baptisms, I have seen many comments by vicars as to parentage ie bastard, base born or ilegitimate child of etc.

Yes Wilma, I do have the cert - it doesnt say anything in the space for the father (hence the same surname as his Mum's maiden name).

And yes Sylvie, it is the baptism Im after (I will amend the original message to say this) but the comments etc were what I was thinking of, to see if there is anything at all there to help.

Dear Julie

The term baseborn simply means born of ordinary birth or origins.

Its an archaic expression to say that a child was born to parents who were not married in an officially recognised church, etc.

In the 1800's, the term was used more because of the poor law system and the parish would try to get the mother to name the father.

Nothing to be upset about.

Many of the population then and even more now, have parents that were not married. No big deal.

Don't worry about it.

Try and contact the church for access to the records if you want to view them or see if they have been transferred to a record office.

Either of these record offices would at least know where the church records could be located.

They could even hold some of them.
