Hes on the 1911 census. Have you checked that because if you view the original page Josiah will write out his own information.

Surely he wont get the place of birth wrong. It will also say how long they married and number of children dead or alive

if he was born in 1835/6 you will not find a birth reg - civil reg did not start until 1837. Can't find a baptism in the area around that time.

I am trying to find birth registration and parents of Josiah Jones.Difficulty is that each census shows a different birthplace. They are as follows
1851 Denistow, Mon
1861 Coalford, Monmouthshire
1871 Dimick, Monmouthshire
1881 Dinistow, Mons
1891 N.K.
1901 Dinistow, Mons

His marriage to Christianna Phillips in Stepney in 1860 shows him aged 25 and his father as Benjamin, a Mariner.

As he was living most of his married life in Cheltenham my guess is that the english enumerator had problems with the Welsh place names which resulted in many different spellings of his place of birth.

I have checked records at Cwmbran Records Office for a birth in Dingestow but drew a blank.

Could anyone help please
