There are 2 other possibles but they are alot older..1796 birthyears so the above seems most likely.

I did see that marriage but there are about 6 marriages between a william and Mary around that time, though i agree only one with Roberts surname, and I can only find a Mary Roberts of that age born in Cynwyd, I have spent a fortune already in wrong certificates but I am going to have to carry on then at least I can rule them out,

You could be right Michelle. The Mary you have found was born in the same place as the Mary in the 1881

I wonder if Elizabeth was a child of a previous relationship or premarriage with a 5 year gap between her and the next child. But it doesn't help much

Yes I've looked for them in 1871 census, but can't find them, I cant find a marriage for Mary and Robert, perhaps they did not bother like, I have found a lot of people didn't at that time, it would have been lucky for her that he had same surname,

I found records of a few death certificates most in Wrexham, so I did not want to send for them all but I suppose this would be the best chance, and a good idea to send for it first,

Referring to the Family in the 1881 living with the widow Mary have you checked out this death certificate to see if this William belongs to Mary.
She may have registered the death.

My ggrandmother was called Ellen Roberts b1875, in Llangollen. I have got as far back as her living in Mill st sq, Llangollen as a single mother with my grandad, Albert Henry Roberts, (following various changes he was finally known as William Farrington). In 1881 census there is an Ellen Roberts b1875, living with her widowed mother, Mary Roberts at 2 Trevor Sq, with siblings Elizabeth b1868, Margaret b1873, Winifred b1878 and Amelia b1880. In 1891 census Mary is living at 4 Mill st, Sq with Winnifred. Mary is then found to be living with new husband Robert Roberts and Winnifred and new daughter Pollie b 1899. I know that Ellens father is on her wedding certificate as William and was a flannel mill worker, but was deceased. I have spent 2 years trying to find the parents of Ellen but have not yet had any concrete evidence. I have purchased various birth certificates but they are definately not hers. I have paid someone at AN Palmer centre Wrexham to find info, but they cannot find birth certificate or marriage of a William roberts in Llangollen. Has anyone got any other ideas? Any ideas gladly appreciated, Angie
