John Davis born abt 1931

I believe John died in Somerset as i know the family was living there at the time.
I have tried looking for his father but we don't have any details of age etc only that he was a farmer and deceased by 1962 when John was married.
We suspect the family might be Scottish in origin as my friend has the classic red hair and blue eyes and it's not from her mother's side (mother refuses to discuss his family!)
I've run out of ideas to try and help. I think we must just have a go with paying for birth certificates and see what transpires. It will at least rule out a Scottish connection if we draw a blank.

But have you tried looking for his dad James Stephen Davis

Also where did John sadly die in 1968 as I am unable to pinpoint his death in England / Wales

I'm helping a friend try to find details about her father's side of the family. John Davis was born about 1931 (assumed from his marriage and death certificates. He died in 1968 aged 37. Extensive research several years ago did not produce a birth certificate in England or Wales. She now wonders if he might have been born in Scotland. I have looked at Scotlands People but it costs £10 to order a cert. I have found a couple of possibilities as I think he was born between June and August 1931. His father was James Stephen Davis. Is there anyway of finding out if the certificate might be correct before ordering it?
