The information i have is he was married to Dorothy Amos (my Nan) and was high up in the army during WW11 in Malta. He had children, Vera(1940)Patricia & Jean.
He may have been William Hockaday then as mother Hockaday married a Mr Scott and had other children Hockaday

Your best bet is to buy the cert for his marriage to Amos, which will tell you his declared age, plus the name and occupation of his father (if known)

What leads you to think he was born in Camberwell?

Have you done any research yourself on freebmd? For his birth or anything else?

I've looked, and there is no marriage for Scott/Hockaday.

William Scott is my Mothers Father who married my Nan (amos) who lived in Peckham in the Camberwell District. He later re-married again. My mother was young and was brought up by her new father and moved to devon and lost contact with him and could not remember much about him.

If you actually wish to make any progress, you will need to buy the marriage cert.

At the moment, you are speculating............
