Now this is interesting.

There is a another WALSH who gives next of kin as his brother Richard WALSH of Werris Creek, NSW. I'm thinking this Richard is the same one i posted a death for: Richard Joseph WALSH d. 1954/31800 in Maitland.

He is William John WALSH, b. Walcha NSW, aged 44yrs in May 1917, labourer, 5' 7.5", 137lbs, brown eyes and dark hair. He was single and [get this] his address was c/- post office in Tamworth! There are 2 enlistments with these details; the one from 1916 shows Richard was an engine driver with the railways. He was discharged in Apr 1916 after medical board proceedings.

Any good?

Hi Deb

Thanx for extra info, always helps to add as much detail as you know to start with!

This in interesting, from naa enlistments:

WALSH Edward Kitchenham : [AKA WILLIAMSON Jack] : Service Number - 60342 N95218 : Place of Birth - Ulladulla NSW : Place of Enlistment - Nowra NSW : Next of Kin - (Brother) WALSH Richard

He first enlisted as Edward Kitchenham WALSH, in Nowra, aged 20yrs 7 months in May 1918, b. Ulladulla NSW 30/10/1897, labourer (p.10). Next of kin is brother Richard WALSH of [Werris?] Creek, NSW. Shown as 5' 5", 147lbs, brown hair & grey eyes. States both his parents are dead. [So who is Richard!?]

In Oct 1918, he re-enlisted as Jack WILLIAMSON in Tamworth, b.1898 Moree, single, aged 20yrs 11 months; labourer, 5' 5", 147lbs, brown hair and blue eyes. Next of kin this time was Mrs Stephenson of Denning Lane, Tamworth (which was also given as his home address). Further, there is a notice that no record of his birth can be found and he states that his parents names are unknown.

Later in the file there is a stat dec (as Jack WILLIAMSON) he wrote and signed in Oct 1918, stating he was born in 26 Oct 1898 in Moree, NSW, that both his parents are deceased and that he has had no legal guardian since 14 years of age (p.31). It also states Mrs Stephenson of Denning Lane Tamworth cared for him up to the age of 14 years and that she is his next of kin.

He was charged in Nov 1918 with making a false statement and fraudulent enlistment (among other things) (p.33). He later admits in a statement (as Edward K Walsh) that his enlistment in Oct 1918 was fraudulent. !!! He was discharged in Nov 1918 as 'his services being no longer required'.

Okay first off marriage is as John WALSH to Celia QUINLAIN in 1871, Armidale NSW.

!!

But can't see any chn born to this couple in NSW.

If one was Fred, then his death in 1938 (Rozelle NSW) shows father as John Sylvester. In that case may be possible death for John as John S WALSH in 1888, son of Wm & Kate, in Sydney (reg 376).

Maybe sons' deaths...?
Albert COOPER (d. 1945/20844) in Rozelle?
Richard Joseph WALSH (d. 1954/31800) in Maitland?
George Ernest WALSH (d. 1976/422)?

Only speculation without knowing more.
