I have just inherited some of my late grandfather's army records. There is a service card showing where he served and for how long, but some of the abbreviations I dont understand. They are in the 'country' column and read as follows -

B.E.F
M.E
B.N.A.F
N.W.E.

Im guessing that it could be British European Forces, Middle East. British North Africa Forces and maybe North West Europe but I am not sure. Can anyone help?

Thanks very much

Julie

thanks Ann - just looked that up, looks like my granddad would have been evacuated from Dunkirk in May 1940. Its all helping me to build up a picture of him.

Are the other assumptions correct, do you know?
