I am trying to find family of Ivor George Lewis who was born in 1911 at 8 Maesygray Street, Gilfash, he was one of twelve. It has taken me 5 yrs to find the right Lewis family so I am now hoping someone of the family will contact me. My Grandfather William John Lewis was an older brother of Ivor.

John, don't know if this helps or not, but there is a marriage of an Ivor G. Lewis as follows:
Ivor G. Lewis to Richards Oct 1935 Bedwelty reg 11a 821
(I think it was Winifred Richards, checked on ancestry as nothing about her on freebmd entry).

Hi Jan
Thank you so much. So you think Winifred was his wife? I know he had a sister also called Winifred. I only put Ivor down because he was the last of the 12 children as stated on the 1911 census so thought it may be easier to find the family. My grandfather was William John his elder brother and he was born 1888 so there was a big age difference between him and Ivor. One would think with 12 children I would at least find someone in the Lewis family so I am hoping.

Hi John.
Well, I do suspect his wife was Winifred Richards - or at least the wife of this Ivor anyway!
I have looked for children born in Bedwellty after 1935 with mother richards, and there are loads - would you believe there are even 3 Ivors and 3 Winifreds!!
If you know Ivor's father's name it might be worth a risk and send for that marriage cert - at least you can discount it if it isn't a match. Do not specify his wife's first name though. I'm loath to suggest that people part with their cash. but sometimes you just have to, expecially if you are looking for lewis's in Wales!

Hi Janet
I know the fathers name was William and mother Mary nee Jones. I have just been looking on Google Earth and found they lived at 8 Maes-Y- Graig Street Gilfach Bargoed. I visited Bargoed in the 1960's and obviously diidn't realise the family lived in that area. If I want to find a death in the area where would I have to go or contact to see if I can find a death in the 1960's would you know. It all boils down ttrying to find where my Grandad William John Lewis(brother of ivor) died for I know nothing of him. Maybe I am going the wrong way doing this search.

John, I don't think you are doing anything wrong at all. You are just having to deal with a very common name, and that can be really difficult. The only thing I would say is that you need to decide what it is you want to find out and stick to it for a bit - is it Ivor's family or your grandfather's death?
Be warned - you might struggle a bit with William John Lewis. However, if you are sure he died in the 60's it might be found online with a little effort. The only way I know is via Ancestry. If you are sure enough of his year of birth and that he died in the 60's let me know and I'll have a look.

Hi Jan
I know he was born in 1888 but having sent for 3 births certs, none were the correct William John. Looking at the 1911 census he was 23 yrs old so that made him born in 1888 in Deri. MT district.
I know for sure that he was still alive round about 1966 when I met one of his sisters who lived in Bargoed, that was my only visit to meet one of the Lewis family and she said she had seen him pass by on a bus so he must have been living in that area.

John, just to say I did have a look for the death of your grandfather 1970 onwards but no luck. These records specify the DOB which surprised me. Before 1970 the name is too common and it is impossible I think. If you want to give it a go to satisfy yourself, you could get the free 2-week membership to Ancestry then cancel it (do this in good time though!).
Sorry to not be able to help.

Hi Janet
Thank you so much I appreciate you giving your time to help me. I said to my wife last night I don't think the Lewis's want to be found.I could find nothing in any of the trees.
I have been looking on Find my Past but so far can't find William. I am already signed up with Ancestry so don't mind taking some credits out although I will see if I can get some free credits.

John - if you are already with Ancestry, why do you need credits?

I registered with Ancestry a few years ago and after I had found all I need to know, I decided to go pay as you go. Now if I go onto the site and look up it states I need to buy more credits.Am I doing something wrong? is there some other way to be on there.
