Are you sure that he was married to Mary? Reason I ask is because of this census...........the occupation is more in keeping with the 1841 one....Cutler------spring knife cutler? Also place of birth is correct.

Hi....I have a Tread on "Records office" called "Derbyshire parish records"..and i just happen to have the Tideswell Parish records..so, if nothing else i am able to confirm for you the following:-
THOMAS HARRISON married MARTHA DAWSON 20.11.1788..and had the following children..all at Tideswell:---
Mary 21.02.1790 Martha 25.12.1792 ROBERT 18.04.1796
He did not marry at Tideswell.
There id another Robert Harrison baptised Tideswell 24.01.1818..son of William and Grace.
I notice that peeps are giving you info based on the 1818 Robert, and if you're sure he is 1796.then much of what you're getting could be a red herring..........Unfortunately I can find no marriage in the Parish records for Robert..and no children either..will look foyrther for you.
All the best
Derek

Derek,
This is the info supplied by Judith and on which I have based my research:-
Robert Harrison, cordwainer/shoemaker b. 1796 in Tideswell, Derbyshire. Married Catherine Homes b. 1786 in Tideswell 1821
Their son Robert Holmes Harrison christened in Tideswell 1821
1841 census Robert Holmes Harrison, cutler
info supplied, I think ,is pertaining to the son christened 1821
Both the marriage and christening on IGI is member submitted!

This is the Robert Harrison in the 1851 who is a Shoemaker and married to Mary. He is born 1797 Tideswell Derby.............now I'm confused!
Which Robert born 1796/7....the one married to Catherine or the one married to Mary?

Hi Judith..in which case we have some work to do......I have seen the IGI SUBMITTED entry on the marriage of Catherine to Robert 1821.......submitted records are at best approximate. at worst inventions. I have done masses of work for people on my Derbyshire Threads......and i can assure you that not only do i have th complete Parish records for Tideswell..as well as 5o others, but due to my frequent trips to Matlock records Office..i have seen the originals........... There is no marriage for a Catherine of any name in 1821.and no marriage for Robert.........and no children.......equally there are no gaps in the records.......
If you have faith in IGI submitted records..then Catherine Holmes was born 1786 at Dronfield..........
Genuinely trying to help here......and i have good siloid records....I'll follow this up,,cos I'm interested.

Hi Moody Blue...it would be handy if Judith re-surfaced to see how much work has been done on her behalf, and perhaps to communicate with us how much of the work is relevant.
Her original enquiry is for Robert b1796..thats all we've got..becasue all the stuff about marriage and children at Tideswell..just didn't happen..at least not at Tideswell.....I'll stake my fairly well documented reputation and experience on it!! What often happened was the groom married his bride in her own Parish and then took her back to his......There is no Catherine Holmes in Tideswell..and no Catherine Harrison..FACT!! Unless he married a Catholic, for which there are no records. Derek

Hi Derek,
I am truly confused with these Roberts so I will bow out now and leave it in your capable hands. It is obvious that you have more knowledge of the area and people. I dont want to confuse things any more than necessary but will keep an eye on the thread and see if the mystery can be solved..............and yes, it will be good if Judith comes back to help clarify the information she has and wants.
All the best Derek!
