And what occupation does James Junior have at the time of marriage -Gas Works or Grocers Man? And where is he living?
Clearly we have the right family (James Senior and Harriet) -the aberration seems to be the 1881 census showing a James Harris boarding with the Hattons -maybe he is nothing to do with your family and likewise Harriet Ann,but the places and dates seem to match

Yes, do have marriage cert and Dad is James and a chair maker.
By the way James married Sarah Turner June 1881
Any thoughts ?

Ooh er! You are right
For ref 1881 shows James Harris 55 Chair Maker Rush work b West Wycombe
Harriet 46 wife b High Wycombe
Mary Ann 17 Chair caner b High Wycombe
James 24 Works at Gas Works b High Wycombe
Harriet 23 b High Wycombe (shown as Unmarried)
Elizabeth 21 Chair caner b West Wycombe
Jabez 14 b High Wycombe

So James has 2 different occupations as well as apparently appearing twice
Harriet Ann Harris married Edward Hatton 1877 Mar Q West Wycombe so well before the census
I have checked to see if there are 2 Harriets and 2 Jameses born same time same place but it seems not
Its a clever trick to appear twice in 1881 and not at all in 1891!
Do you have James Juniors marriage cert to confirm his fathers name and occupation?

Hi
Re Gillians reply

Sarah Harris on 1891 census in Devon is right.

What is strange though is on the 1881 census as you rightly say Harriet Harris has married Charles Hatton, with brother James as the lodger.
But also again on the 1881 census James and Harriet are still living with their parents, James and Harriet senior !!!!!!!!!

Ideas anyone ?

1891 Devon
Sarah Harris 33 mar Evangelist b bucks
James William 7 son b Bucks
Sidney John 2 b Surrey

In 1881 James is 24 Grocers odd job man lodging in Wycombe with Charles Hatton 24 Shoe maker b Gt Marlow and Charles wife harriet 23 who looks to be James sister

1871 Wycombe
James harris 45 Chair Maker
harriett 38 wife
JAMES 14 Chair work
Harriett 13 Chair caner
Elizabeth 11
Ann 9
Mary A 7
Jabez 4all born Wycombe

If as you say Jame Junior was (like Sarah it seeems) active in the Salvation Army he may well have been travelling and missed the census for 1891

Hi

Help and advice needed please
I'm looking for my great grandfather, James Harris born 1857,Wycombe, Buckinghamshire. He married Sarah Turner in 1881, James was very active in the Salvation Army in Wycombe. Their last child was born 1893 in Wycombe and Sarah died in 1899. I found Sarah and 2 of their children on the 1891 census but no sign of James.
How do I go about finding him please
