Gwen Edwards born on the 23.05.1908 to Mary Ellen Edwards in Denbigh adopted by Mary Jane Edwards{born 1871] and Edward Edwards{born 1873] as a baby and moved to Wrexham. Trying to trace birth mothers details but keep getting a dead end with no date of birth! Any ideas please?

There is also this one on 1891 which looks more likely:

Edward + Mary E are with grandparents but there IS a birth reg for Mary ELLEN which fits
(I could only find Mary's and Mary Elizabeth's to fit the 1881 census! )

P.S. - Although Mary Ellen fits better, I think this Edward is too young???

I have a feeling we should be following the Edward + Mary Ellen I found on 1891 census with grandparents ???

I think it is more likely that Edward's sister would be younger than him rather than older if he 'took on' the child (just a feeling).

Also, There is a definate birth ref for a Mary ELLEN in 1888:

I have searched for Gwens fathers birth certificate but had no luck, I have got Mary Jane, Gwens adopted mothers but don't think this will be any use in tracing Mary Ellen. I am trying to find copy of Edward Edwards birth cert so I can find out his mother and fathers name.
I know Edward died on 06/12/1951 age 77 and lived in Adwy, Coedpoeth, Wrexham.

Gwen had 2 cousins called Melsie and Alice, no more information on them just thought Melsie is unusual name.

Edwards marriage cert to Mary Jane Evans would give you his fathers name - I believe the one I posted above in Wrexham would be the one??

Dea, information on Gwens Birth cert is she was born 23.05.1908 at 15 abrhams lane,Denbigh born to Mary Ellen Edwards a domestic servant and birth registard on 04.06.1908. On the other side of birth cert it has 17 abrahams lane and says otherwise known as windmill street, this is a copy Gwen must have requested because it says on it " for purpose of getting the child out of school for employment, this is dated 31.05.1922. It is signed by a David Edwards of 15 Abrahams Lane, Denbigh who was a general labourer. He could possibley be related.

I think some information off the census is correct because Mary Jane's {who married edward}mother and father were catherine and john evans

I don't have Edwards and Mary Janes mariage cert either! Only have their death certs and gwens birth cert + mary janes birth cert, have asked my mum to look at hers incase she has them hidden there! Most proberly be tomorrow, thanks for all your help x

My mum has more information in a book she is going to look for over the weekend sometime, she's also going to get in touch with an old aunt if possible so that might shed some light on tracing gwens roots hopefully!
