Had a look at the original image, but it didn't give her home address in England. Do you know who her parents were - if so, you may be able to find her on the l9ll census.

I'm clutching at straws really.

All I know for certain is that Edith Mabel Cook gave birth to a son Charles Oswald James Cook in Cheltenham 1905, no father, mother down as a sewing maid

I think I have found Charles Cook, possibly mistranscribed as Cooles, right age born in Cheltenham and listed with a family by the name of Trapp. He is listed as adopted but has name Cook still.

On his marriage certificate he is Charles Oswald James Pugh. He lied about his age on his marriage certificate saying he was 21 not 18, and he says his father was Alfred Pugh Stockbroker, but he may have lied about that as well

My father in law is going to be 85 tomorrow and I really want to find out about his father (Charles Oswald James Cook/Pugh) before it is too late.

If any one has any suggestions I would be very grateful.

I have'nt been able to confirm her on 1911 census and wondered if she had gone abroad due to the disgrace of a child born out of wedlock!

Hi Choccy
Thanks for that. She is the one I am tending towards, though I don't know how I will ever prove it.

I can't find a marriage for her. I have tried going up and down her tree to see if there is any Pugh or Trapp connection. I think in those days there were a lot of unofficial "adoptions" with family members taking in children

It's reassuring to see someone else also thinking along the lines I am

Liz47 - I can't say for sure as I don't know if I have the right Edith Cook, but the one I am guessing at, purely on location and age is the one Choccy has put on
their marriage is I think the following

Marriages Dec 1871 (>99%)
Cook Alfred Gloucester 6a 561
Remes Eliza Gloucester 6a 561

AnnieG- I am assuming my Edith came from Cheltenham, but she could be from anywhere, it could be the one you have found.

Thankyou both for your input

I think the Edith M COOK who came to WA was Edith Maud, not Mabel. Found matching marriage to SCOTT and death in 1967 aged 87 that fits.

Sorry

COOKE EDITH MARY 1882 29 Gloucester Gloucestershire

There is the above
with Birth Place CHELTENHAM <<<<<<<
The above could be married etc cos there is no birth to match

BUT it is worth checking if she is SINGLE & a sewing maid <<<<<<

Remember the 1911 census has a lot of errors.

Hi
Thanks to all who have replied today. Just checked "My Threads"

Thankyou to Cherilyn, I was wondering if she was mine, but it doesn't look like it.

Thanks to Fairthorn also, but going by 1891 census I believe my Edith's sister Ada was Ada Mary who married Albert Baylis. Ada Rebecca married Harry Oakley and her parents were Thomas and Rebecca. The 1901 family with Alfred and Eliza is Edith Mabel's. I will certainly have a look at the Edith Mary Cooke you found.

Thanks again to everyone.

I am always grateful for any help. I must have been trying this one off and on for about 5 years now!!!
