Hi,

If they married in 1833 the only possible way to see if James lists his father at his marriage is to look at the parish records. There maybe witnesses too????

I just picked this family up, could be the wrong track but some of the names stood out to me;

Jaqueline, are you 100% sure this is the marriage? Just a word to the wise, try to be as specific as you can with your queries - the "?" on your original post makes it look as if you are unsure, hence we've all been meandering about on the wrong paths! Not too bothered myself but some folks get very annoyed when this happens.
Hear endeth the lesson

Thanks for all the reply, James Scott born 1813, married Sarah wilson born 1812, both from Tower hamlets london, married on 23/02/1833, the problem I have is I can find the marriage, but because its before 1837 no certificate can be sent, so was hoping someone had them in there family tree and could help with some information, but thanks to all that offered help.

Interesting!
Maybe this marriage then?
James Scott ?to Sarah Ann Waters Mar 1838 Bermondsey ref 4 3
But all speculation of course without the birth cert.
Just goes to show the standard advice is the best -- start with what you know and work backwards.

Jacqueline, I wonder if this could be the marriage?
Janes Scott ?to Sarah Wheeler Sep 1837 Whitechapel ref 2 418
If they married by the time the oldest child was born, it might just fit.
You definitely need the birth cert of one of the children.

Hi,

So the marriage to Sarah roughly took place in what year??? If you can find their marriage (if after 1837) the certificate would confirm the fathers name, this would then help any trace to find James's father.

If you are unable to trace their marriage is there a child born after 1837??

I think you should add more info onto your post, ie; Sarah's year of birth and area, any children they had. This will help to search the census returns and give helpers a better understanding of the family.

Researchers on GR are amazing in what they can find out for you, however you will need to add the extra info though.
