I am trying to find out out more about a MARGARET WALKER. I know that she was initially married to someone with the surname LEGGE with whom she had a son. In 1910 she then married my Grandfather, Albert Kitson, who travelled a lot but was often based in Victoria Australia. Margaret died in 1920. Any help gratefully received |

Simon, do you know how old Margaret was when she married your grandfather? I can't seem to find a marriage to anyone called Legge (or Legg!), so her age would narrow it down a bit. Might then also be able to find her on census reports, assuming it is this sort of info you would like. |

Simon, maybe someone else will have more luck, but I can't find her. Are you sure she actually married this person or has it been passed down the family verbally? Do you have the marriage cert to your grandfather? This would show her name plus maiden name - and age of course! |

On the one hand it has been past down verbally by family history but on the other it also features in my Grandfather's entry in the Australian Dictionary of National Biography. So I have every reason to believ it true. The problem may be that it is not certain whether they married in the UK or in Australia. |

Sorry to seem a bit dim Simon, are you saying Margaret may have married Legge in Australia? Looking on freebmd, she definitely married your Grandfather over here, and you are right she is called Margaret Legge at this point. Therefore the question mark may be over her maiden name. I would get this cert if it were me. |

Just to say, it may be irrelevant, but I have found a Margaret Legge born 1870 with presumably her son Alan JW Legge born 1900, both born in Australia and living in London. Margaret is a widow. It looks like some kind of accommodation for incomers, as there are a lot of people there from abroad! Will have a closer look. |
