Thanks very much for your help. Much appreciated. I still cannot find Hannah Murphys birth or marriage - any tips on where to look. I'm rather new at tracing relatives so please bear with me. (I'm just about coping with the newlaptop my grandchildren bought for me - it's great fun though) hooray just noticed Hannahs marriage - you're a star! Many thanks |

Civil registration of BMDs only began in 1864 (well, non-RC marrs began 1845), so you'll be needing parish registers to go back before then. |

This looks like her John was in the army on both census and children born in staffordshire. |

Can anyone help? My great grandmother was Hannah Murphy born about 1858 in I think, Carhisveen, Ireland. She had a half brother called Bartholemew which was also her father's name. I managed to trace the christening of her half brother in about 1860 at Boherbue. Hannah married John Bilton Duncan (a soldier with the South Staffordshire Regiment) in about 1880-83 I think in Ireland as I can find no record in the UK. Any help will be much appreciated. |
