Anne, you do know how to search at ScotlandsPeople and in the IGI, the places where people here would be looking?

I like this one for the job -- just at first appearance.

1851

Name: Susan Millar
Age: 56
> Estimated Birth Year: abt 1795
Relationship: Wife
Spouse's Name: James
> Where born: Auchterarder, Perthshire (mistranscription, I assume)

Civil parish: Muthill
Town: Muthil
County: Perthshire
Address: Muthil Village

James Millar 52
Susan Millar 56
> Peter Millar 18
John Millar 15

Household is the same in 1841.

The age, place of birth and son's name are good matches, so I might look for a marriage, or for a child's birth, to see what the bride's/mother's surname was.

From the Parish Register for Perth;

Perth the twenty second of July one thousand seven hundred and ninety four was born -

Susanna Young lawful daughter to Peter Young, Mason, in Perth and Elizabeth Gow his spouse and baptized the thirtyfirst day of August said year by Mr John Reid Minister to the Reformed Presbytery at Laurieston West Church Parish Edinburgh.

I could not find a marriage for Susanna, but I will keep looking

Hiya, Thomas! I was thinking of giving you a shout. ;)

Any info about the marriage of that James Millar and Susan?

Humour me and my wild theories. ;)

Well I didn't look for that one Janey as I thought someone had already posted the marriage details on a duplicate thread the poster had running. If information is still need just remind me what exactly is wanted.

Oh really. A duplicate thread.

Gee, maybe that's why Anne hasn't bothered replying to the help offered here. Just too busy tending her other threads.

Here's me outa here.

-- edit -- actually it isn't quite a duplicate thread:

http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards.asp?wci=thread&tk=1159743

I'd looked at it from that possible perspective, but I think the reply about Susannah was just from someone who'd posted in that thread and seen this one. Still the potential for overlap/duplication.

What I was curious about, Thomas, was who the Susan was whom Mr Millar married, since his wife fits Susannah Young's specs so closely.

Still would be nice if Anne would acknowledge her replies.

I checked to see if the Susan married to James Millar was the same as Susanna.

They appearred in the 1851, 1861 and 1871 censuses at the same address in Muthill.

I then checked death records for both Susan Millar and James Miller and could not find them at all. I then tried under Miller and found the death of Susan, husband of James Miller at Muthill. It is not our Susanna as her parents are given as David and Mary Penny.

Oh well, one theory bites the dust. ;)

My theory though, heh, is that all the theories gotta be checked out!

Ta again, Thomas.

Thanku both for the help you hae given me. I do have 3 threads on the go and they are all closley linked to the same family.

So it looks like Susannah marriage etc remains a mystery at the moment.
