Please put that name as the thread subject or in the first few words of your post, rather than someting vague like 'Help Wanted' followed by 'I am trying to trace my maternal grandmother and her cousin who lived in Bristol...' . Then you're more likely to attract the attention of someone who can help. OK, someone just browsing might be curious enough to look at a vague post like that, but people who've not got much time are likely only to look at posts which give a name they recognise. Help us to help you, as they say.

I'm not sure I get where you're coming from with this one?

I dont mind what name it is and whether it is in the thread subject or not. If I dont have time I dont log on to GR..simples!

I take it from your thread you only help people whose surname means something to you?

There was a similar thread posted a couple of weeks ago about the same thing.

As Ginny said if she has not got time she wil not log on and the same goes for me.

I am not selective on what threads I choose and am willing to try and help everyone regardless if there is a name in the heading or not.

If I was looking for a particular person I would actually look on the Surname Information board.

I agree with AllanC and Leonie

There was a post with just the name "Roffey" in the heading recently,I have no interest myself but I knew it was the maiden name of a friends mother-so I opened it and sure enough it was that family the searcher was interested in.

A name in the heading grabs the attention
