Yes it should be a male, Marquis is in the same age column as John so unless the transcriber has made a mistake it should be a male and it should be father and son. How can I find out where they are from when it says 'foreign parts'? |

Please can someone help. In the 1841 census John and Marquis?! Harris living in Leeds are registered as 'born in foreign parts'. John Harris had 2 children with a Mary Briggs. I am not sure if they were married. She was born in 1822 in Hunslet, Leeds. Their children were Benjamin Harris 1843 and Samuel 1846. The latter is my great great grandfather. He had a daughter called Elsie Harris born 1897. I can't find or imagine where they would be from and since we have slightly darker skin than the usual Englishmen was wondering if anybody knows anything? I can't find John or his father on the 1851 or 1861 census, only a John Harris living in London who was from Bermuda?! |
