I have an Edward/Edwin Driver who married Caroline Withington in Gorton, Manchester (where later generations lived) on 16 Jan 1876 age 20 (fathers name Daniel Driver) both labourers and residence at time of marriage Gorton. However, on 1881 census where born is given as Wales and on 1891 census where born is given as Wales, Buckinghamshire! Finally 1901 census gives where born as South Wales. Does anyone have a knowledge of Wales to help identify the area, or can anyone identify his birth please which would be approx. 1856 in either Wales or Manchester? |

Could this be his birth.........only one that I could find for South Wales? |

Have you found him in 1871 and 1861 with his parents? That might be a more accurate record. It's possible that he wasn't too sure where he was born, especially if the family moved when he was young. |

Moody Blue, that looks a possibility, though i have no idea if Merthyr Tydfil counts as South Wales, but its worth a try. |

I think that this is his brother who states that he too was born in Wales> |

Mrs Grumpy, i have followed your advice and now im even more confused! There is an Edwin Driver living with father Daniel Driver born 1855 and place of birth given as Herwin, Cornwall but now living in St. Decuman Somerset. Have been given a lead on a birth in Merthyr Tydfil as well which looks worth following up. |

Moody Blue, if they were confused at the time about where they were born, what chance have us genealogists got some 150 years later of working it all out? That looks like them though so will order a birth cert. and take it from there. Thanks for all your late night help. |

Thanks moody blue. I'm going to order the Merthyr Tydfil b/cert as it looks quite promising. Have had no luck in finding a marriage entry for parents Daniel and Harriett though so maybe b/cert. gives me another clue. |

Moody Blue, thanks for further info on Daniel's death and Harriett's remarriage. I wonder if i can impose a little further and ask if YOU have been able to locate Daniel and Harriett's marriage. I cant find it and you seem to have better luck and knowledge about the whole maze of finding records than i do! Thanks |
