Have you tried looking in electoral rolls for the time? A John James ROBERTSON in Tredegar might stand out a bit more.

Hi folks,
Sorry, I had no idea that there were any replies to this posting. On other website forums I've used previously I've always had a message to say someone had responded.
The problem I have with John James ROBERTSON is that the older members of my family who would have known the info have all passed on. The only two who had close contact with him were only 3 or 4 years old when he disappeared from the scene and consequently too young to remember. I was hoping to find a marriage, but I suspect that being wartime, he lived with his partner as husband & wife without ever marrying legally, unless the marriage took place outside of England/Wales. This is possible, as he may have born in Scotland. There may be a connection to the name McLauchlan but this is tenous (or even ficticious!). Being such a common name, without knowing his date of birth or exact age, I've been unable to trace a birth record. Of course if he was born in Scotland, I won't find it on England Wales BMD anyway. He may have been in the Scots Guards, and while I have had a lot of help from them, again the info is too vague for them to come up with anything positive.
Kind regards,
Dawn

The URL of a thread is different for each thread. It isn't the member number of the poster. You can see the URL for this thread in the address line of your browser. The 6 or 7 digits at the end after the = sign are the thread number.

Those threads are all Dawn's about this person, mostly quite old threads, and none has any replies. The problem is they're still around on the board, where someone might encounter one and not realize there is another identical thread on the boards with replies and info, if that's the case, and try to help on an old thread by doing what's been done on a newer one, or vice versa.

Dawn may have better luck this time, since there are more active helpers than 2 years ago. But Dawn, you still need to offer any other info you have that could help find him or his family.

I've looked for marriages, but there isn't one that stands out as being in the right place and time.

You've posted it previously.

People don't have to read back through old threads, as you say in that first thread. All you have to do is post a new message in an existing thread, and it becomes a new thread all over -- it rises to the top of the board list.

You give the same information each time, but do you not have anything else? Was he married? Did he have children? Who were his parents? Did he have siblings?

It's difficult for anyone to help in a vacuum.

Hi, I know I've posted this previously, but I also know people don't always bother to read back through older messages. I am trying to find information regarding JOHN JAMES ROBERTSON who lived in Dove Street, Kingsdown, Bristol around 1947 - 48. I would guess that if he were still alive he would be in his early to mid 80's. He may have moved from Bristol to Tredegar in Wales in the early 1950's but this is just hearsay. According to Kelly's street directories he was still living in Dove Street in 1956.
Any information greatfully received.
