I have a copy of a birth certificate where a declaration was made by the mother. She gives an address in another registration area to that of the place of birth.
Baby's father was in the police force and we think she stayed to have the baby in her home area, before moving to the village where her husband had been posted.

Fantastic thanks for that. My mum was given up for adoption so presumably her mother didnt go in person and there is no record of father!!

Thanks

I think what this means is that the birth was notified to the registrare in writing rather than in person. I have a certificate which has the words 'as per declaration dated...' after the father's details.
What seems to have been the case here is that the family lived near Swindon, Wiltshire but the mother returned to her parents' home in Gloucestershire to have the baby (this was very common at one time, particularly with the first child), and after mother and baby returned home the father registered the birth, which had to be done at the register office for the birth district. I don't know whether he had to do this directly by post or via his local registrar.
