hi all
can anyone please help me,
i am trying to find gro index for marriage, of james johnson born abt 1846, coventry and elizabeth i think might be [green born abt 1849, coventry,]
i can find no trace,
they both appear sepratley on 1861 cencus, and then together on 1871 cencus, elizabeth died in 1886 and death cert
states elizabeth johnson and wife of james johnson and is signed james johnson widower of deceased,
james remarride emma oxford in 1887 and marrage cert
states james is a widower,
even with all this information is it still possible that
james and elizabeth never marride,

John, nor quite sure from this if you know any of their children's names? If so a birth cert would be better as it will gives both parents' names.

is this them in 1881 - is so one of the children's birth certs will give Elizabeth's maiden name which may help looking for the marriage

the birth cert was registered wrong,
they have james and elizabeth down as johnston and not johnson
don't know if this will help,

spellings often varied on certificates as it often depended on the clerk to spell it and each different clerk may have thought of it differently - frequently both parents were illiterate so would not know the difference

yes but it dont half make it hard for us doing the searching,
seems like no ones had any luck with the marrage,
i keep looking but can not find any trace,
makes me think they were man and wife by name only???
