Arthur (1889) & Elsie Emily (1899) St Albans

PS. Found Emily & Arthur in 1911 - definitely right Arthur as he was born in Park Street, which is pretty precise. I think it was a street when he was born but is now a district in the praish of Holy Trinity, Frogmore, St Albans, where they are buried.

Did not find Elizabeth with them. He did have a sister known as Elizabeth (although she was born Charlotte Elizabeth) but she was born in 1896. [Incidentally, I wonder if anyone has any idea about another sister, Emily in the census, but born Charlotte Emily - before Charlotte Elizabeth. I've looked for a death, in vain. Very odd!]

I think there must have been errors with Emily Elsie's name and her age at death. Her birth is recorded on Ancestry as Emily Halsey but according to the 1911 it's the only possible birth!

I have also looked for children and found none. I did first of all a search in St Albans, theh Herts, then all counties. Nothing that can be ascribed to them. As I said she died in Islington, so they may have moved there at some point - who knows when, eh??

I think I'll have to close this episode now. Many thanks.

Arthur was the son of Alfred John and Elizabeth (Herrige/ Haines according to transcription) and that is his birth date according to the death index. It was actually registered 1st quarter 1889.

The burial information is not from a headstone or memorial but from burial records direct from the vicar (copied & pasted into his email by the look of it)

Two questions here:

1. Her burial is under the name Elsie Emily, not the reverse as for some records - could that have been an error in the burial records or just her preference when alive.

2. She died in 1957, and is said to have been 58, which makes her birth year 1899, therefore only 11 in 1910 when Arthur is recorded as marrying. Could the age at death have been wrongly transcribed?

Finally, I've just looked for Arthur and Elsie (under his birth year) and got nothing, also for Arthur on his own,. Any secrets?

These are all the people in 1911 with using Emily Elsie as a reference, you would need to check who was definately with them by looking at the transcript;

was Arthur still single in 1911?

have you looked at that yet?

there is an Arthur Hall 1889 living in St Albans with an Elsie, perhaps worth paying to see the transcription?

what record have you got? is it a transcription of tombstone inscriptions, or is it the burials list from the cemetery/church?

i only ask because the 2 don't always correspond
ie not all those buried in the plot may be named on the tombstone, and vice versa not all those remembered on the memorial may actually be buried underneath

so you may be able to find clues, as others have, be cross-checking the 2 records

in what year did emily die?

I don't have any children for Arthur Hall - no S and Elsie. Only the fact that they are buried in the same plot and that checking the death index revelas that he is definitely my Arthur by birth year. Without her maiden name I can't trace any children since there is no census available after a marriage. To tell the truth I can't even be certains that Elsie Emily was his first wife and mother of any children.
A number of other members of his family are buried in the same graveyard and I have found them all pretty easily; the burials took me forward by another two generations for Arthur's brothers.
I'm just stuck over this marriage. There are two other GR members who obviously have this family on their tree but thay have not responded to my contact.

Is it Arthur Hall or Halls? Did they have children and do you have their names and likely birth years?

I have a record of the above who were buried together in St Albans: in the church that corresponds with where my relative, Arthur died in St Albans but she died about 20 years earlier in Islington, London, so presumably he moved back home. Arthur was born & raised in the neighbourhood served by the church in which he was buried and his death record gives correct birth date.

However, I cannot find a marriage anywhere after trawling for two days. Ancestry now has fully searchable marriages but there are so many Arthur Halls and so many Elsie Emilys it's next to impossible!
I know she was born in 1899 from death record but it was too early for the record to give more than her age.

I've tried various ways of finding her maiden name, including checking maiden names for Hall births.

Can anyone make any suggestions please??
