Oh dear...

Well she is buried at Karrakatta as Clara YOUNG

You can check out the YOUNG-MASTERS marriage at http://www.bdm.dotag.wa.gov.au/_apps/pioneersindex/default.aspx

There is no record of MARTIN[S]-MASTERS nor a birth for her as MARTIN[S].

The year of death and age (50 in 1942) fits with a birth as MASTERS in 1892, 5yrs older than Joseph. And they are buried together at Anglican LD577.

Maybe it is a case of an assumed/misplaced memory? If you are sure it is him in this grave, order his death certificate and that will give you spouse's name.

Or to be extra certain, order your husband's father's birth, marriage or death certificate as this should also have his mother's maiden name.

Forgot to add - if this is the right family, probably best place to start would be Joseph A's parents marriage cert from 1876 as it will tell you where they were born and parents names.

Hi Cos

I'm going out on a limb and assuming Joseph Alexander YOUNG is the right man, as there is only 1 at Karrakatta (died 27 Sep 1962 aged 75 in Bayswater WA)...

Here is his WWI enlistment, which gives the first clue:

Young Joseph Alexander : SERN DEPOT W16802 : POB West Guildford WA : POE Perth WA : NOK W Young Clara

Yes Joseph Alexander YOUNG was born in West Guildford WA in 1887 to William & Amelia Law YOUNG nee DAVIES (reg 668). He was one of 12 children born 1877-96. His parents married in Albany WA in 1876 (reg 4123).

His mother Amelia died 5 April 1921 aged 63 in West Guildford (also buried at Karrakatta) (reg 459 Perth). Can't find William.

Clara MASTERS and Joseph Alexander YOUNG married in Claremont WA in 1909 (reg 55). Clara was born in 1892 in Fremantle WA (reg 1370) to James Edward and Martha MASTERS nee JOSS. She was one of 9 children born 1886-1903. Her parents marrried in Perth in 1885 (reg 6050). Clara died 28 Jan 1942 aged 50 in Perth (reg 291).

Her father Jas Edward MASTERS died in Claremont aged 67 on 17 Sep 1920 and is buried at Karrakatta. Can't find Martha's death but likely birth for her in Perth in 1869 to Richard & Sarah Ann JOSS nee WYLDE (reg 11903).

At the time of his enlistment in 1918, Joseph was aged 31 and a labourer, 5' 8", 138lbs, with brown eyes and hair, and living in Harold St, Bellevue. He and Clara had at least 1 son, Joseph Edward, who was the grantee on their grave at Karrakatta (b. 1912 Bassendean, d. 1996 aged 84 Bayswater). He married Alma M HAYES in 1942 (reg 1239).

You can look up the bdm and order certs at

Hi Cos, Unfortunately, the surname doesn't show in your heading.

Are we to take it that the name is Young?

You will need to give us his date of birth and any other helpful details you can think of.

If you look at the other boards, there are some volunteers who do lookups in Australia which may be more helpful to you.
