For a long time I have been searching for the parents of my gr.gr.grandfather Henry Charles Robinson, c1807, born Newport, Isle of Wight, according to the censuses. Through his profession of surgeon and apothecary, I found out that the Baptism Register date of 11.12.1807, was given as evidence of his age when he was apprenticed to Mr. William Patey Baldy of Plymouth for 5 years. Since I haven't yet found anything about him on the Isle of Wight, I wonder if he was batised elsewhere. How can I find out where he was born, unless someone somewhere has the information for me. |

Susan, do you have details of his marriage? No clues there I suppose? |

Thanks everybody. Unfortunately no news there as yet. There is no marriage certificate although they did marry in Maker, Cornwall on 24th March, 1828, before certificates. However, we have been to the Truro Records Office and have a photocopy of the marriage entry. No clues there either, as at that time, he was working as an apprentice to the apothecary, and was living in Plymouth. No family witnesses either. Her family, the Patey family, were all naval and mostly came from around the Plymouth area. They moved up to London in 1829 as their first child was baptised in Bow and Henry was working at hospitals in London. As for Newport, Isle of Wight, so far, nothing. I have also been to Winchester to look at the Bishops' Transcripts. However, I am going to Newport next week, and will have a look for myself, but I'm not holding out much hope of success. |
