Hi,

Can anyone help me find information on the parents of my great grandad Charles Robertson? I know he was Irish and his son William was born in Arklow, County Wicklow (15/01/1917) but I don't know where in Ireland Charles was born, I do know it was c1893,

Charles Robertson was married to Amelia O'Connor also born in Ireland c1896.

Also, can anyone recommend some good resources for tracing Irish ancestors?

Thanks for your time,

Vicky

Hello Vicky

I've just carried out a quick search on the following site:

http://search.labs.familysearch.org

Under Wickow, in Ireland I've searched marriages for Charles Robertson and Amelia O'Connor, each name separately, and the following record comes up separately for both names:

Rathdrum
Apr-Jun 1916
Vol 2
Page 725

As the registration district, the registration quarter, and the volume and page numbers are all the same for both separate records, this looks like it is probably their marriage.

The marriage certificate, if ordered, should give the fathers' names and this would be a start.

I can't guarantee the accuracy of these records or whether they are your ancestors or not.

It's free to search the FamilySearch site. Take a look and see what else you can find.

The 1911 census, followed by the 1901 census, are currently being transcribed on behalf of the Irish National Archives and are being added to the following site piecemeal, county by county. It is free to search and view the records. The counties mentioned above for the marriage and births haven't been added to the 1911 yet.

Hi Hibernian and Keith,

Thanks for the website suggestions, and information, it's definately Amelia O'Connor, I believe her father was in the RIC. I will take a look at the websites you suggested, can't wait to find out more! :)
