I have traced my paternal great-grandfather John Lewis from when he moved from Liverpool in 1881 - I am trying to trace his parents who remained there and have hit a blank wall.

Can anyone help? The only information I have is that he was Catholic and moved from Liverpool to find work as a Miner. I believe he may have had a sister named Elizabeth.

His marriage certificate should have his fathers name & occupation, which should help find the correct family on census records.

Thanks for both of these replies.

Re marriage cert - I have this but no father listed which I realise could mean he was illegitamate but this is why blank drawn.
