Sarah King 1830

ProfilePosted byOptionsPost Date

in the 1841 census, Sarah was aged 10 and living in Wapping St, South Shields, in the household of John King (b1812). However, he was not married until 1836 (to Elizabeth Hare), so Sarah may be a niece or cousin. The census states she was NOT born in South Shields, but no other details given.

Can anyone shed any light?

Presumably you are working back in time - so are you related to John King? If so, do we know where he came from?

It looks to me as if she is John's sister.
In 1851 his son George 13, Errand Boy is "grandson" to George and Sarah King in st george in the East London

1851 21 Har St
George King 70 Coal Whipper b Herefordshire
Sarah 63 wife Tailoress b Middx
Sarah Suddaby* 20 daur married b St George in the East
George King 13 grandson Errand boy b Durham S Shields
Maria Joseph 33 daur married Tailoress b St George in the East

*Sarah Suddaby nee King is the Sarah who appears with John in 1841
To clinch it -next door in 1851 is the same John King 39 Mariner b St George in the East BUT he has a new wife Jane and her daughters are called Pearon
There are 2 deaths for Elizabeth King in S Shields -one in 1846 and one in 1849

Thomas King who was 3mths old in 1841 appears as grandson in 1851 to a James and Mary Ward both born in Ireland! Not sure how this fits a I would have expected the grandparenst to be HARE not Ward -maybe a mistrancription
