Sandra Report 1 Aug 2009 01:18

Richard Bell was my great grandfather who was born c1865 and died after 1945 in Wallasey Mariner's home. Richard ran away to sea at 14 and worked his way up to become a bosun. He married, I think either a RHODES or a METCALF and had 6 children:
Charles Bell, an egg producer working in Ormskirk
Margaret Bell
Ada Bell b1912 - d1992
Gertrude Bell
George Bell who had a twin name unknown.

Ada was my grandmother who married William Moore.

If anyone can help me with any of the details above I would appreciate the help.

Thanks

Linda

Are you able to give a first name for his wife, or other childrens birth years to narrow down the census search? Regards Linda :)

Possible birth for your grandmother...gives mother's maiden name as Metcalf...

Year of Registration: 1913
Quarter of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar
Mother's Maiden Name: Metcalf
District: West Derby
County: Lancashire

If your grandmother was born in December 1912 her birth may not have been registered until January 1913.

Hello Ladies

Thank you for taking time to look up my ancestors and I have to say I am very impressed by the speed of your searching. Can you please tell me how you search so fast as I take a lot longer, am I missing some vital stages? Still relatively new to tracing the family tree but already hooked and loving it!

I had traced RHODES in the 4th quarter of 1912 but as my grandmother ADA BELL was not born until 26/12/1912 I believe the record in the 1st quarter of 1913 for mother's maiden name METCALF to be correct. So with the results you have for GERTRUDE and the TWINS - GEORGE & WILLIAM I am more convinced it is METCALF. I have searched the marriage records for RICHARD BELL to both RHODES and METCALF but can find nothing between 1896 -1901 in which I believe they were married judging by the details in the 1901 census and age parameters. However, as it is quite possible they were married onboard a ship and so the records would not be included in the general BMD records at least I think so, am I right?

I am sorry to pick your brains but it seems obvious you know more than me and it is the only way to learn. I really do appreciate your help so thank you once again.

Sandra
