Thanks everybody for the help. I'll definitely try Liverpool Library. I've tried the censuses but that doesn't help. I'm almost at the point of giving up.

You could check with the Liverpool Records Office which is within Liverpool Central Library...they may be able to help in some way.

I'm not sure that you'll get results for such an early date. Certainly most women won't be listed until around 1930.

Will census be of help?

The library at Liverpool may hold the electoral rolls or be able to tell you where you can find them. Some places will do a look up, some charge and some do it for free.

Will the Electoral Roll tell me who was living at an address. I'm trying to find who was living at 88 Squire Street, Liverpool, in April 1897.
