Hi,

Would anyone know what is the best route to try and locate wills for people who died in the period of the early to late 1800s in South Yorkshire?

I have tried the online documents on the national archives website but they dont have many wills at all for south yorkshire.

Looking mainly for the wills of Richard Thompson who died 1804 and Stephen Thompson who died 1824, both shoemakers of Aughton near Aston, South Yorkshire.

Kind Regards
Claire

my county library / records office has some wills for Buckinghamshire

try the local one for South Yorks - possibly Sheffield?

Hi Helen

I will look in to that. Not sure if South Yorkshire has a county library. I think I will drop the Sheffield Archives an email to see if they could guide me on this.

Many thanks

I recently found that Findmypast hold a number of Will Indexes - it had the ones I was look for on it Findmypast Index to death duty registers 1796-1903.
