Larceny is theft. Unfortunately the image gives no more infi regarding what he was accused of stealing. The whole page is full of people in court for Larceny.

Well that would explain why Andrew Chidgey just disappears!

I found Andrew back to 1841 if you want the details.

I still can't find a death for Andrew Chidgey or a marriage between James & a Martha Chidgey to tie the two families together but I'll keep looking a bit longer for you.

I've just had an exciting message from someone regarding my tree - the 2 families are indeed the same people. They fled Somerset after 'James Hall' was accused of sheep stealing. He then went on to change names.

I've even found further children they had!

Thanks for all your help everyone.

Chrisa - that's brilliant.
In 1871 I have the family, hence why you can't find them under Chidgey.

Thank you!

I think I maybe having problems with James Hall, his marriage and children.

In the 1871 census I have James Hall married to Martha Hall with 7 children:
Alfred Hall (1869)
Ellen Hall (1867)
Florence Hall (1865)
Laura Hall (1863)
George Hall (1860)
Henry Hall (1857)
William Hall (1853)

The 3 youngest were born in Cardiff and the 4 oldest in Somersetshire. However I can't find any of their births - is it possible the kids weren't James'? And therefore had different surnames at birth?

Can anyone offer some advice here?
Thanks
