Just rechecked & yes did say soldier at time of marriage. So thanks ever so much for that June. Looks like that all fits then. |

Well that solves that, June! I would have thought barracks would show as "military", but I didn't have that little bit of crucial info from the marriage certificate ... |

Jenny, The institution on 1911 census is Gravesend Military Barracks, and workhouse. In a previous email didn't you say that William's occupation on his marr. cert. is soldier. Surely, this fits, and I have given you that info. before. |

It's not bothering at all -- but if you follow along, you'll pick up tips for searching and might have more fun doing it. I just kind of hate doing the discovering for people if they'd rather do it, and don't like to keep taking things too far back for fear of spoiling their own fun. |

If you've accessed the marriage cert info - how old was he when he married? That's a crucial bit of info for searching. |

hmm, in 1911, these are the Johnsons in Gravesend who answer to "brewhouse" for residential place - not to No. 10, though. |

You can use the address as a search term in the 1911 census. You have to include a name (given name or surname), but if there's a match, it will tell you. |

Does anyone have free access to a site that can lookup censuses free from an address rather than by name? |
