Unable to find any details of my fathers family. My father Harold married Ethel Spurr. I know they lived in Aston, Birmingham before moving to Stechford, and Frederick, his father, lived in Aston and probably Balsall Heath. Harold 1908b, Frederick 1860b.

A free search on the 1911 census shows this;

HOUSEHOLD HARRIS HAROLD M 1909 2 Aston Warwickshire

These 2 Fredericks come up using Harold on the free search;

HOUSEHOLD HARRIS FREDRICK M 1886 25 Aston Warwickshire
HOUSEHOLD HARRIS GEORGE FREDERICK M 1885 26 Aston Warwickshire

I should have also asked what was Fredericks occupation on Harolds marriage certificate??

David, unfortunately Harris is quite a popular name, therefore you will need to buy Birth and Marriage certificates to ensure you are on the right track.......... because Harold was born after the majority of censusi were released this will be the only way to find out. Sometimes (unfortunately) the certificates will be for the wrong Harold, this can't be helped though.

I have Harris's in my ancestry and they were quite difficult to trace, luckily mine were available in the census returns, although I've still not traced one of them for a 20 year period (1881 -1901)..........
