I have William BEAKE born c1800, wife unknown. They have a daughter called Ann(e) BEAKE born c1830.

Anne Beake married William COOMBS (born c1830) and they had a daughter called Elizabeth COOMBS (born 1853 in Moorlinch, Somerset and died 1945).

Believe to be from Somerset area. Does anyone know where William, his wife and Anne BEAKE born. I may have their birth dates wrong.

Thanks, Karen

if the father was born in 1880 how could he have had a daughter in 1830?

brummiejan Report 16 Aug 2009 23:21

I would think the marriage of the above William and Jane:

WILLIAM BECK

Marriages:
Spouse: JANE BROOKS Family
Marriage:
01 DEC 1827 North Petherton, Somerset, England

I think 1880 was a slip! Says 1800 in heading.

Thanks for the comments.

Well spotted, William BEAKE was born c1800 (not c1880).

1861 census
Moorlinch Parish, Somersetshire
William Coombs, head, 56, ag lab, born Moorlinch
Ann, wife, 40, born Westonzoyland
William, son, 25, shoemaker, born Moorlinch
Emma Beake, dau-in-law, single, 18, house servant, born Westonzoyland
Frank Coombs, son, 12, ploughboy, born Moorlinch
Charles, son, 10, ploughboy, born "
Elizabeth, dau, 8, born "
Mark, son, 6, born "
Annie, dau, 5, born "
Celia, dau, 3, born "

The term dau-in-law here denotes step-daughter. I would say that William is William's son from a previous marrige and Emma Beake is Ann's daughter from previous marriage or her illegitimate daughter.

Margaret,

Many thanks for your kind assistance with this. Yes, it does look like it is the right family.

Would you know Ann BEAKE's parents were? Was her father William BEAKE?
I am trying to see if she are father/daughter.

Hope you can be of some assistance if you don't mind.

Does Ann BEAKE have a brother called Robert BEAKE who was born Weston Zoyland in 1838?

I was told that William Beake has children called Robert and Elizabeth but I am wondering if Ann is one of his children?

That is the link I am trying to establish.

I'm stuck now. The only Ann Beake I can find on the 1841 census is a servant aged 15. With the rounding down of ages on the 41 census she could have been 15-19. She was in Middlezoy, Somersetshire.

Jola Report 17 Aug 2009 00:04

The plot thickened and getting there, Thanks for contributing and it is much appreciated.

Does that mean Ann(e) BEAKE and Robert BEAKE are siblings and their father is William BEAKE? I have no idea who William BEAKE's wife is.

MargaretM

MargaretM Report 17 Aug 2009 00:15

there's this William Beake in Westonzoyland:
1841 census

William Beake, 45, ag lab
Elizabeth, 40, ag lab
Charles, 15. ag lab

Mary, 7 months
All born in county.

oh dear ...

Not sure how Ann(e) fit in with William Beake. Unless they must be siblings?! or Niece/Uncle?!

Mind baffling....

Many thanks Margaret,

You have been a great help, very much appreciated.

It does seem Ann's parents were William Beake and his wife Elizabeth after all. BUT it is strange that Ann was not being part of the family in the census.

Karen

Jola

Jola Report 17 Aug 2009 00:46

Margaret,

I think you are right.

I believe Ann's parents were William and Elizabeth BEAKE. She has already left home as a servant in Middlezoy, Somersetshire during 1841 census so she wouldn't be listed with her family. It is more likely Robert BEAKE was her brother.

The only way is 1831 census may reveal that?

Need a cuppa to ponder ... once again many thansk for your help

I don't think it's so strange that she wasn't with her family in 1841. Unfortunate.. yes! Most young women in those days worked as servants before marriage and that necessitated living with the family that they worked for.
