There are a couple of John Scotts in the 1911 in Houghton Le Spring you might want to have a look at:

http://www.1911census.co.uk/search/tnaform.aspx

Not really possible to sort out who's in what household without a lot of messing about -- but you could, for instance, search first for the possible John Scotts, and then for the people living with a John Scott, and then see what John Scott is living with, e.g.,

SCOTT ELIZABETH F 1882 29 Houghton le Spring Durham

(there's a marriage in 1906 that could be to an Elizabeth), and so on.

Or check out the possible marriages and look for children born after 1911 with those surnames, at FreeBMD,

http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl

and see whether they're in any trees here at GR ...

I think I might pay for a look at two or three 1911 census records and see whether they look like him. No John in the 1911 who answers specifically to a search for born in Seaham Harbour matches yours, though.

Ah. Well maybe you could reproduce the 1901? I can't find that record, I'm afraid. (Oops, we did know the stepfather's surname: Atkinson.)

You've tried the 1911?

I think "Easington" meant this:

Civil parish: Hetton Le Hole
Ecclesiastical parish: Lyons St Michael and All Angels
>> Town: Easington Lane
County/Island: Durham
Country: England
Registration district: Houghton Le Spring
Sub-registration district: Hetton le Hole

?

A little more guidance for people who don't already know all this would be helpful.

Oh, and its NEIL Street, not NEI. That's the address for the record I reproduced above.
