I have found a birth record at the registry office for Elsie Gertrude Taylor born in 1903 and christened 21 July 1903. However I have not managed to find her on 1911 census, nor a marriage nor a death? Her mothers name is Jessie Braggins, Father George taylor, they lived in Standon Herts, thats where she was born, her siblings were Jessie, Lavinia,George,Cicely,Otho,Victor,Muriel, archibald, francis & reginald. Any help pleeeease ! |

I presume this is the family in 1911 but as you say no Elsie Gertrude at home. Does the image show that any of George and Jessie's children died? |

yes thats them, but no the image shows 0 children who have died, so in 1911 she would have been 8 yrs old, maybe at a friends house?? but i cant find her at all on 1911. i know there was a child who spent her life in the Three counties hospital in Stotfold, beds (Lunatic asylum as it was known then!) so im wondering if those patients were not on the census???? I know its the right famly because i've seen her birth entry. |

I can't see a birth entry on Ancestry for her in 1903. |

If you know the address of the hospital you can also search on the address field of the 1911 census |

i found a baptism record at the registry office, but suppose she could have been born before. There is a birth in 1902 on ancestry for her name?? but how do i know if its her or not? |

You could order the birth certificate and use the reference checking page to specify that you only want the certificate if the father's name is George and mother's name is Jessie. That way if it isn't the right one they will refund you £4 and just keep £3 for the search. |

If you put Elsie Taylor born 1903 Ware in the 1911 census search a record comes up, have you tried looking at this, maybe she was staying with grandparents or a friend. |

What does it say her relationship is to the head of household? If she is listed as a visitor she may not be related to this lady at all, she might just be a family friend. |

What relationship does it give for Elsie to the widow? You could search on FreeBMD for her marriage or look for her in the 1901 census |

You'll need to trace this lady back with the census see if you can find her on the 1901 census, if nothing try the 1891. |

there is only the widow and elsie listed, the relationship is stated as none! as she is a widow then this will be her married name, not that i can read it very well, so can i search under a married name? for her marriage? sorry, im new at this, lol |

How old is this lady? |

By elimination is she Margaret Jane Hinson b 1885. If she is that young and a widow she may have just wanted a child to are and as the census states is no relation |

This looks like Matilda Steed in 1901 The child living with her is listed as a companion so maybe Elise was fulfilling the same role |

thank you for this, yes maybe she was, although I can not fathom a 74 yr old woman having an 8 yr old companion? |
