Does have anyone have acces to 1871 census other than what's on here? I cannot find Thomas Wood born 1847 in Cheslyn Hay, Staffs. I have found him on 1861 with his parents (Charles and Elizabeth) in Cheslyn Hay and on 1881 (with wife Sarah Ann and some children but all less than 10 years old!). I am trying to find his marriage and there are a number of possibles - knowiing whether he was married or not in 1871 would help a lot but I just cannot find him! |

Thanks Janice - I feel a bit of a fraud - he was there all the time! I do have this record but have omitted to write his name on my notes! I'm so sorry but thanks anyway!! |

11 children in all - all the boys were coalminers and all the children appear to have survived! Amazing! |

Ooh Andy - that is fantastic! I did pick up on the Sarah Stokes marriage but left it as a possible because I was expecting Cannock or Lichfield not Walsall. I think you've done it though - one of their children was Priscilla - must have been named after her mother! |

Here is the marriage. I've got relatives in my tree who married at the same church! |

Yep - definately the right marriage then as the 1861 census you found is certainly her (father Isaac). The Walsall connection makes sense now too as Thomas parents were married at St Mathews in Walsall despite them both being from Cheslyn Hay. My geography of this area is a bit sketchy - are they close? |

Google Cheslyn Hay and then look on the googlemap that comes up to see where it is relative to walsall. |

Cheslyn Hay and Walsall are 7/8 miles apart, so they must have had a reason to go so far to get married, might be a clue a the certificate if you care to order it. |
