Samuel Williams is my Grandad Born 1901 Died 1984
Married Emily Jones 1922. I'm trying to find out info on my Grandad's parents. All I know so far is his dad's name was Samuel Williams and his Mum's name was Crendreller. Can anybody help with where the parents come from and Crendreller surname please.

Don't wish to sound nasty Susan, but Wroy already knew that. The 'Crendreller' surname though......even familysearch turns up nothing, so either the spelling is completely wrong, or you have incorrect information, Wroy.

Thankyou Paul
I was only posting the marriage so as to know where these people are from for other researchers as nothing was posted as to where to look for them.
I do agree with you however,I can find no ref for that name with that spelling CRENDRELLER ,Wroy do you have the name spelt correctly.Sue

Where did you get the Crendreller name from? Is that her first name or her maiden name.

His death reg says that he was born 4th April 1901. The 1901 census was taken on 31st March so he should be on that if the DOB is correct but I can't find him. DOBs on death certs are often wrong, especially the year.

Do you have his father's occupation from his marriage cert?

If his birth date was 4th April 1901 why would he be on the census for that year which was taken on the night of 31/3 to 1/4? The surname of his mother sounds to me as if it could be Italian and ending in "ella" but I have tried variations of prefixes to no avail

1911 census Crendreller Williams b1883 living with Samuel b 1876 and Samuel b 1901, living in Wandsworth.

Is this what you found? Have you viewed the image to see if it is a mistranscription?

Potty

Potty Report 14 Sep 2009 15:44

Of course you are right, Gillian, he wouldn't be on that census! Senior moment!

Wroy, if you haven't already done so, I think you need to look at the image for the 1911 census. That should give the POBs of the two Samuels and Crendreller. I have looked at every Samuel Williams marriage from 1898 (when she would have been 15/16 to 1901 and can find no partner with a name anything like Crendreller.

Do you know if your grandfather had any siblings born after 1911?

Potty

Potty Report 14 Sep 2009 15:54

Two brothers from the 1911:

HOUSEHOLD WILLIAMS HENRY M 1911 1 MONTH Wandsworth London
HOUSEHOLD WILLIAMS LEONARD M 1906 5 Wandsworth London

As Potty has now found that "Crendeller" is the supposed Christian name rather than surname could she be " something Ellen" -I have searched the marriages also but not found a bride with Ellen as second name
and the only Samuel Williams I could find born June Q 1901 was in Greater Manchester!
