FHL is Family History Library belonging to the LDS Church (Mormons). They're the ones who went around the world microfilming parish records wherever they were allowed to. Most of their records are on the Familysearch site here:

Margaret many many thanks for this info.

I havn't been on the website so much of late as we are suppose to be into spring but today have dad as cold and rough as we get in mid winter, I am a nurseryman so am flat out plant propogating instead.

Your info will give me much to look up in the census returns.

Looks like Susannah died between 1841-51. (Remember that ages of those over 15 on the 41 census are rounded down to the nearest 5)

All born in county.

I wondered if William might be an illegitimate son of Hannah. Looks like it:

Thankyou for such a quick reply. My great grandfather b 1853 came to NZ via work in the Railways engineering at Swindon, bringing one of the early engines to NZ. His father Robert was b. 1816 Chiseldon and marr. Sarah Coleman. From the census records I have found Robert to be the son of John b. 1788 Chiseldon. What I am after is to try and find out who John marr. and his parentage. You may not be able to help with this .
